Aasnes

Aasnes Glassworks (Norway) was operating in the period 1813-1883. It was established by Johan Christian Vogelsang in the Nord-Trøndelag. The production of a large amount of glass fishing floats began starting the 1840-s. The factory was of a great importance to its district and one of the most important glass producers in Norway. Aasnes Glassworks manufactured window glass, bottles, medicine equipment, glass fishing floats (round and pear-shaped) and other glass products with their special sand formula. We have seen glass fishing floats marked: 'Aasnæs', 'Aastnæs', 'Aasnæs (with a dot afterwards) and 'Aasnæs V' in the following sizes: 2,5 - 5 inches in diameter. The stamped markings 'AAS', 'AA', 'AAV' and dotted 'AA' could be the glasswork's trademarks as well.

This float is marked as 'Aastnæs', that is an older manner of spelling, meaning that this beautiful example was made earlier than 'Aasnæs' marked glass floats. The size is 5 inches in diameter. Light blue glass. Resides in a private collection in the US.
